The Digital Detox
This detox came at the perfect time. With all that is going on in the world, I think that we could all use a break. All of the news coming from the Supreme Court kind of hit all at once, and it was hard to be on the internet without falling into the pit of despair.
Nevertheless, she persisted. I stayed off of Twitter and Instagram for the most part. It was hard, but I knew that scrolling through everything wouldn't help me. It was helpful that this week was one that was different for me. Our school district had a big conference on Tuesday and Wednesday for the new Florida standards. We are switching curriculums as well, so we had to be trained on that too. It was a welcome distraction from the outside world.
I had some FOMO, but it wasn't as terrible as I expected. I read more, which has been a goal for me this summer and that was so nice. I really wanted to take a trip to the beach but the rain has been putting a damper on that. I planned for the new school year a bit. I'm moving schools and grade levels next year, so it feels like I'm starting all over again, but it's an exciting feeling.
I'm hoping that this detox leads to more of them because I don't think we've realized how much we rely on technology to get us throughout our days.
Glad that hear that this detox was a timely practice for you. I think we can all agree that things are pushing our limits recently, really!
ReplyDeleteHope you can make it to the beach next time! That'll be fun. : )
OMG - I was at the B.E.S.T. conference too! #missedconnection haha. I enjoyed it for the most part, and I am excited about these new standards. What grade are you changing to? Changing can be both exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. I've taught all the elementary grades, except 4th, and I can honestly say 5th is my favorite. Who knew? I swore I'd never leave 1st years ago, and look at me now! lol
ReplyDeleteI had a nightmare the other night that showed up for the first day of school and my room was NOT ready, someone put a bunch of extra furniture in there AND the kids were AWFUL and not listening, etc - I usually do not have classroom management issues, so that one cut deep. Thank goodness I woke up. lol
Ugh too bad we didn't know at the time! It would've been nice to meet in person!! Maybe one of these days! I'm making the switch back to 5th grade! I taught 5th for 3 years and loved it. Last year my school pushed me to 3rd and while I loved that too, I really missed my older kids.
DeleteThat nightmare sounds familiar! I'm hoping for none as we get closer to the school year, but we'll see! :)
Our district isn't training us until the middle of this month. I am glad to hear that you all seem to be okay with the new standards. I started reviewing the math standards and then found out that I was going to move to Language Arts this year. I have a few very good friends who have nightmares before the beginning of the school year @TheWeave. I have also been trying to make it to the beach. Fingers crossed we both make it before the beginning of the new school year.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! It can be overwhelming reading the news and seeing it reposted online. I hope the pit of despair hasn't captured you! To avoid it on Instagram I haven't been watching stories from those I follow. A lot of people repost infographics that send me towards that pit. I hope the rain doesn't stick around too long and you can get that relaxing beach trip :)
